Qtrax

One of the more fierce digital battles being fought today is that ongoing conflict between record companies and online pirates.  Let’s face it, pirates just aren’t going to get caught.  Aside from a few scare tactics and freak arrests, illegal downloaders are making out like bandits with their videos and music.  It’s gotten to the point now where the record companies have lost so much money they are almost ready to surrender-almost. Case in point, a new website called “Otrax” has just been launched.  Qxtrax promises to have a database of over 25 million songs, licenced by the artists yet still free to download.  If all goes well, Qtrax will be the first successful website to mediate the space between record companies and the pirates.  Looking to the future, it is clear that digital music won’t go away so it’s refreshing to see the corporations looking for ways to meet the problem half way rather than pretending it’s not an issue.
