This call to the bullpen is brought to you by…

I am a New York Mets fan. There, I said it. This may very well be the first time I’ve made that bold statement since the collapse of ‘07. Oh well, I guess time does heal. Anyway, having watched many baseball games in my day, I have decided to post regarding an interesting form of media that I typically have overlooked. Virtually everything in baseball has some sort of sponsor, it’s almost nauseating. I’m not even talking about the myriad billboards, posters and videos that decorate the actual ballparks, I’m talking about the kind of media found in the telecasts. Ever heard of Allstate insurance? Their slogan is “Are you in good hands”? Naturally, every Mets broadcast features the Allstate “Good hands play of the game”! Man, these guys are clever! Remember Cingular wireless from those pizza boxes? Well Cingular is a phone service and people make calls with phones, how can we implement this into the baseball universe….Aha! Ladies and Gentlemen I present to you the Cingular Wireless Call to the Bullpen! Honestly, every time either the Mets or the opposing team changes pitchers I have to hear “This call to the bullpen is brought to you by Cingular wireless”. Gee, thanks Cingular for sponsoring every call to the bullpen, because I love nothing more than when my teams pitcher is exhausted and has just given up 5 runs.
